私、「洋楽担当 ぶろっこり」が、気になる洋楽の歌詞を中心に、気ままに紹介している@今週の洋楽。今回は、先日亡くなったドリス・デイ Doris Day の追悼ということで、「２人でお茶を Tea For Two 」をピックアップします。
今では、ラジオなどで流れている曲は何という曲で誰が歌っているのか、radikoで調べたり、netを検索したり、shazamなどを使ったりすれば、簡単にわかる時代です。情報があふれている時代ですね。
でも、昔は気になった曲があっても、ずつと誰の何という曲か判らずにモヤモヤしながら過ごすことがあったり、逆に曲名は判っていても、その曲を聞く機会がないといったことがたくさんありました。だからこそ、その曲がとても思い出深い曲になるということもあります。私にとって、この曲はそんな曲の一つです。
FMラジオを流しながら、車を運転していたときにオンエアされた曲。余り気にせずに聞いていたのですが、途中から耳なじみのある曲になりました。あれ、これ「二人でお茶を Tea For Two 」だったの！とびっくりしました。曲自体はよく知っていましたし、スタンダードな曲ですのでいろいろな歌手が歌ったのも聞いたことはありました。でも、この曲は、なんかとても新鮮だったのです。誰が歌っているのか知りたくて、ネットを検索したり、ラジオ局にメールしたりしてやっと歌手名がわかりました。そして、ＣＤを買ってあーこれこれと納得したものでした。当時は、今ほどネットやストリーミングが発達していなかったので、実際に曲を聞くまでに１〜２ヶ月ほどかかったのではないでしょうか。

この Moonlight Serenade というアルバムも、歌手のシモーネ Simone Kopmajer も、お気に入りになりました。今でこそ人気がありますが、当時はネットで simone と検索しても、ニーナ・シモン Nina Simone しか、ヒットしなかったんですよね。( Nina Simone もいつか取り上げたいなぁ)
「二人でお茶を」がスタンダード・ナンバーなのにとても新鮮に聞こえた理由が 、今ではわかります。それは、この曲にはバース Verse と言われるイントロの部分があり、私が覚えていた「二人でお茶を」は、コーラス Chorus の部分だけを歌っていたからなんです。だから途中であれっとなった訳です。

この曲のオリジナルは、ミュージカル「No, No, Nanette」1925。その後、ミュージカル映画「Tea for Two」1950で、ドリス・デイ Doris Day とゴードン・マクレー Gordon MacRae がデュエットで歌ってヒットし、多くの歌手が取り上げるスタンダード・ナンバーとなりました。
先日亡くなったドリス・デイはもともと、レス・ブラウン楽団の専属歌手で、『センチメンタル・ジャーニー』1942 が大ヒット。『洋上のロマンス』1948 で映画デビュー。『二人でお茶を』1950 は主題歌もヒットして売れっ子に。西部劇風ミュージカル映画『カラミティ・ジェーン』1953 の大ヒットで人気が不動のものになる。ヒッチコック監督の『知りすぎていた男』1956 で『ケ・セラ・セラ』が大ヒットし、アカデミー歌曲賞を受賞。といったアイドル的な人気があった歌手・女優さんですね。
