マイケル・ジョセフ・ジャクソン（Michael Joseph Jackson、1958年8月29日 – 2009年6月25日）はアメリカ合衆国のエンターテイナー。「人類史上最も成功したエンターテイナー」他多数のギネス世界記録を保持している。これまでのCD・レコード総売上枚数は10億枚以上。1970年代から2010年代まで「5つの世代で全米トップ10シングルを持つ唯一のアーティスト」。
そしてこの曲は、1991年全世界で3200万枚売り上げたという大ヒットアルバム『デンジャラス』の7曲目。翌年シングルカットされてヒットしました。1993年のスーパーボウルのハーフタイム・ショーで、数千人の子供たちと一緒にパフォーマンスを行ったのも記憶に残っています。

マイケル自身が、インタビューの中でこう語っているそうです。
「残りの人生で、たった1曲しかパフォーマンスできないとしたら、どの曲を選びますか？」という質問に対して、「うーーん、2、3曲選んじゃダメ？」と真剣に悩みつつも、「1曲だとしたらやっぱり Heal the World だよ。あの歌は僕が今までにレコーディングしてきたすべての楽曲中でも特別な曲なんだ。人々の心の中に、これからも長く生き続けると思っているよ。何かとても特別なもの、何かとてもイノセントなもの、何かとても大切なものについての曲だから。」 という答えました。
プロモーション・ビデオでは、アメリカやアフリカ・中国・中東・東ヨーロッパなどで内戦や政府による抑圧、人種差別や貧困等で苦しんでいるさまざまな人種の子供たちが登場します。マイケル・ジャクソンはこの作品の発表を契機に、世界中の子供達が様々な暴力や差別、放置といった不幸にさらされないようにと「ヒール・ザ・ワールド財団」を設立しています。
「年間で200万人、いや260万人もの子供が、防ごうと思えばできたような病気のせいで命を落としているんだよ。他にも何百万人もの子供たちが虐待や暴力の犠牲になっていると聞いている。こんなことは起こらずに済むはずのことなのに…」
そんなマイケル・ジャクソンのHeal The Worldを、45人ものキッズアーティストが集結してカヴァー。話題になりました。
