現在公開中の映画「エルヴィス Elvis」は、エルヴィス・プレスリーの生涯を描いた伝記映画。バズ・ラーマン監督の映像と音楽、プレスリーを演じるオースティン・バトラーの熱演・熱唱が話題です。
世界史上最も売れたソロアーティスト、エルヴィス・プレスリー。彼がいなければ、ビートルズも、クイーンも存在しなかった。
エルヴィスの＜誰も知らなかった＞真実の物語を、『ムーラン・ルージュ』のバズ・ラーマン監督が映画化。若き日のエルヴィスは、ルイジアナの小さなライブに出演し、当時誰も聴いたことのなかった”ロック“とセンセーショナルなダンスを披露する。若者たちは“彼“に魅了され、次々と叫び、熱狂する。その瞬間、やせっぽちの無名歌手は、スーパースターに変貌した―。熱狂が瞬く間に全米へ広がるにつれ、センセーショナルすぎるロックとダンスは社会の大きな反発も生んでゆく。
ということで今回は、映画「エルヴィス Elvis」公開によせて「イン・ザ・ゲットー In The Ghetto 」エルヴィス・プレスリー Elvis Presley をピックアップ。
「In the Ghetto」（元々のタイトルは「The Vicious Circle 」で貧困と暴力の悪循環という意味でしょうか）は、1969年にプレスリーのカムバックアルバムの曲として、カントリー・シンガーのマック・デイビスが書いた曲。シングル・リリースされて大ヒットして、全米1位に輝いています。アルバム「プレスリー・イン・パースン」のＢ面、「ミステリー・トレイン〜タイガー・マン」のメドレーの後「ワーズ」「サスピシャスマインド」につづいて「イン・ザ・ゲットー」「好きにならずにいられない」というながれは、ぶろっこりの大のお気に入りでした。
シカゴのゲットー（スラムなどの貧民街）に生きる庶民をテーマにしたメッセージ・ソング。後半の盛り上げは感動的。

いろんなミュージシャンがカヴァーしていますけど、ぶろっこりはエルヴィスが一番ですね。
