音楽大好きの ぶろっこり が、気ままに気になる気分のミュージックをお送りする @今週の洋楽 。
今回は、時節柄冬にちなんだ曲をと思い「スーパーバード Superbird 」ニール・セダカ Neil Sedaka をピックアップ。懐かしいと言ってくださる方も多いのではないでしょうか。
ニール・セダカの歌でぶろっこりのお気に入りは、1970年発表で日本のみでヒットしたという｢スーパーバード Superbird ｣。
以前ピックアップした「雨に微笑を Laughter In The Rain」の回にも書きましたが、ニール・セダカは1958年「恋の日記」でデビュー。その後「カレンダー・ガール」「恋の片道切符」「素敵な16才」 などの大ヒットを連発。日本でもポール・アンカと並ぶアイドルでした。しかしビートルズの全米上陸でロックが流行して、人気が低迷します。その後イギリスに渡って発売されたのがこのアルバム「エマージェンス Emergence」（71年）です。セダカ自身が１番好きなアルバムと話しているそうですが、その中でもこの曲がいいんですよね。
「スーパーバード Superbird 」
ニール・セダカの曲の特徴は、日本人好みの哀愁を帯びたメロディ。これがいい。アルバムではいろいろな試みをしていますが、特に「Superbird」は、バロック風のイントロや重層的なコーダが印象的な曲。当時30歳頃のジャケ写とは違いすぎる（セダカごめんなさい）エバーグリーンな甘い歌声です。

ぶろっこりの記憶の中では、クリスマスツリーのまわりをぐるぐると飛び回るスーパーバードのイメージがあったのですが、歌詞の中にサンタクロースが出てくるだけで冬の唄というわけではなかったようです。また、やられました。苦笑いです。

歌詞の中で気になった単語 zoom 。今なら、オンライン・ミーティングに使うアプリが最初に浮かぶかもしれません。また、カメラワークや画面の拡大表示の言葉としてもよく使われます。アメコミの効果音？でも見かけますよね。調べてみると、
自動詞 急増する、急上昇する、素早く動く、拡大・縮小する
ブーンという音を立てる、大きな音を立てて急に動く、疾走する
他動詞 〔画像・映像を〕拡大する、縮小する 〔飛行機を〕急上昇させる

名 詞 急上昇、急増、〔物価の〕急騰、〔飛行機の〕ブーンという音、《コ》拡大表示
ということで、音を立てて急発進したり急上昇・急降下するイメージでしょうか。鳥が力強く羽ばたいている音が聞こえてきそうです。映画「グランド・ジャーニー」や「WATARIDORI」の空中シーンを思い出しました。ご覧になった方は、お判りですよね。
当時購入したこのシングル盤も憶えています。Ｂ面の「ローズマリー・ブルー Rosemary Blue」も、しっとりとした落ち着いた人気曲。歌詞の内容は悲しいものなのですが、ニールセダカのやさしい声が心に響く作品になっています。記憶に残る曲で人気があるのも頷けます。
