英メトロ紙に、「世界で最もハッピーなポップソングについての論争に、科学的な決着がついた」との記事が。音楽心理学者でシェフィールド大学のMichael Bonshor博士によると、ハッピーな曲のパーフェクトなコンビネーションは以下の通り。

テンポ：137拍子/分
拍子記号： 1小節に強拍4拍
トーン：明るい
ボリューム：大
構成:：ヴァース～サビ～ヴァース～サビ
その他の特徴：7分音符、短いイントロ、繰り返されるリフ、驚きの要素（キー変更など）。Bonshor博士は、「普通の和音は3つの音を使いますが、セブンス・コード（七の和音、三和音にルートから短7度の音を加えた和音）は余分な音を加えるので、音楽的な緊張感や安心感を与えてくれるのです」と言う。「また、明るい曲は通常、1-2-1-2の強いビートを持つので、合わせて踊ることができます。しかし、イントロが短いと、曲がすぐに勢いよく始まり、長い盛り上がりはありません。ハッピーソングの作り方としては、音量を大きくし、まろやかな楽器ではなく、トランペットやエレキギターなどの楽器で、明るく弾むように音を出すのが良いでしょう。最後に、リズムやギターのリフが繰り返し出てきて、人々の記憶に残るようなものがあれば言うことなしです」と続ける。
そして、この方程式を最もよく踏襲している曲は．．．The Beach Boysの”Good Vibrations”なのだそうだ。
まあ、いろいろと突っ込みたくなるような説ですが、Good Vibrationsは確かにハッピーになれる曲のひとつです。ということで、今回は「グッド・バイブレーション Good Vibrations 」ビーチ・ボーイズ The Beach Boys をピックアップ。
「グッド・バイブレーション Good Vibrations 」は、ビーチ・ボーイズが1966年に発表したシングルで、彼らを代表するヒット曲。グラミー賞最優秀ボーカル・グループ賞にもノミネートされました。
Smiley Smile（1967年）
アルバム「ペット・サウンズ Pet Sounds」（1966年）のレコーディング・セッションで録音がおこなわれたが、次のアルバム「スマイル Smile」も制作が頓挫して、結果収録されなかった音源を集めて発売されたアルバム。
「グッド・バイブレーション Good Vibrations 」は、テルミンの効果的な使用とコーラス、チェロの三連符などが特徴的な曲で、ブライアンは「ポケット・シンフォニー」と呼んだとか。1966年10月シングルで発売されると、アメリカで全米1位・ゴールド・ディスク認定の大ヒットとなりました。
「グッド・バイブレーション」という言葉は、ブライアン・ウィルソンが幼い頃に母親から聞いた dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations”「犬は人の”バイブレーション”を感じて、それが悪いバイブレーションだと吠える」という話からヒントを得たそうです。
