前回のスパンキー&アワー・ギャングつながりで。今回は、「サンデー・モーニン Sunday Mornin’ 」マーゴ・ガーヤン Margo Guryan と スパンキー・アンド・アワ・ギャング Spanky and Our Gang をピックアップ。
「Sunday Mornin’」は、スパンキー&アワー・ギャングやオリバーがヒットさせましたが、実はマーゴ・ガーヤン Margo Guryan という、アメリカのシンガー・ソングライターの曲。といっても、マーゴ・ガーヤンは、JAZZのピアノや作詞作曲という方面で主に活躍していて、シンガーとしてはあまり作品を残していません。
日本では後に渋谷系として再評価されるソフト・ロック。もともとは、1960年代後半にサンシャイン・ポップとかハーモニー・ポップなどと呼ばれていた音楽。ロジャー・ニコルス、ハーパース・ビザール、リズ・ダモン、クロディーヌ・ロンジェ、カート・ベッチャーといったアーティストが有名どころですが、マーゴ・ガーヤンも1枚だけ『テイク・ア・ピクチャー Take A Picture』1968年というアルバムをリリースしています。

こちらが「サンデー・モーニン Sunday Mornin’ 」スパンキー・アンド・アワ・ギャング Spanky and Our Gang のヴァージョン。1967年のリリースで全米30位。
同じくオリバー Oliver の「サンデー・モーニン Sunday Mornin’ 」1969年。オリバーは、ミュージカル『ヘアー』で使われた「グッドモーニング・スターシャイン」がデビュー曲にして全米3位の大ヒット、映画「ミス・ブロディの青春」の主題歌「ジーン」などで知られたシンガーです。
シンガーとしての彼女は、ウィスパー・ヴォイスで語られることが多いのですが、それはまた、次の機会に。
