今回も前回に続いて、スターシップ Starship の「愛はとまらない Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now」をピックアップ。
「愛はとまらない Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now」は、打ち込みのドラムにメロディアスなエレキギター、平板なシンセサイザーのアレンジとまさに80年代のデジタルサウンドなんですがミッキー・トーマスとグレイス・スリックのツイン・ボーカルが気持ちいい。1987年に全米と全英で1位を獲得、日本のオリコン洋楽シングルチャートでも1位になっていますね。
スターシップのセカンド・アルバム『No Protection』1987年に収録。
前作の『Knee Deep in the Hoopla』同様にピーター・ウルフのプロデュースで、ほとんど外部作家の曲に演奏もスタジオ・ミュージシャンという録音ですが、ボーカルのふたりはパワフルで気持ちがいいです。
映画『マネキン』のテーマ曲となりのサウンドトラックにも収録されています。
1986年のミュージック・ビデオでは、ミッキーとグレイスのふたりが映画『マネキン』の主人公に扮して歌っています。

ところでこの曲「愛はとまらない Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now」は、アルバート・ハモンドとダイアン・ウォーレンの共作となっています。ダイアン・ウォーレンはご存じ人気のヒットメーカーですが、アルバート・ハモンドも「カリフォルニアの青い空」や「落ち葉のコンチェルト」「フリー・エレクトリック・バンド」「風のララバイ」などをヒットさせただけじゃなく、作曲家としてもホリーズの「安らぎの世界」、レオ・セイヤーの「ウェン・アイ・ニード・ユー」、カーペンターズの「青春の輝き」などを提供していたんですね。知りませんでした。「カリフォルニアの青い空」や「落ち葉のコンチェルト」はこのブログでも取り上げていますが、ほかの曲もピックアップしてみたいですね。
