たまたまアップル・ミュージックからのおすすめで流れてきた曲ですが、この曲なんだっけと気になって詳しく調べてみました。ということで今回は「ハッピー・エバー・アフター Happy Ever After」ジュリア・フォーダム Julia Fordham 1988 をピックアップ。

「ハッピー・エバー・アフター Happy Ever After 」は、イギリスのシンガーソングライター、ジュリア・フォーダム1988年のシングル。全英シングルチャートで27位を記録しています。

全英20位となったデビュー・アルバム『ときめきの光の中で Happy Ever After』1988 。

シングルは全英では27位でしたが、当時のいわゆるトレンディ・ドラマ「ハートに火をつけて」の挿入歌にもなり日本では1位の大ヒット。ちなみに、主題歌は杏里の「Groove A・Go・Go」でしたが、この曲はぶろっこりのイチオシ曲です。他にも挿入歌として、ドアーズ「ハートに火をつけて」、ジャニス・イアン「17才の頃」とベタだけどいい曲使ってました。

ゆったりとしたパーカッションをバックに、ジュリア・フォーダムが包み込むような低音で淡々と歌ってそれが胸に響きます。

愛と人生というテーマで曲を書いている途中で見た、南アフリカのアパルトヘイトに関するネルソン・マンデラのＴＶ番組からインスピレーションを得て、この内容に変更したと本人が述べていました。

When I started writing the song 25 years ago, I took a break after the verse and chorus were written, I turned on the TV and was overwhelmed and inspired by a piece on South Africa, Nelson Mandela and the apartheid.
Having just absorbed such shocking information, I could not just continue with a theme about love and life wondering if I would be happy ever after. Nelson Mandela is a shining light of integrity, such an elegant and eloquent man. An inspiration to us all.
