９月の半ばというのにまだ暑い夏が続いています。暑いときは暑いロックで乗り切ろう。ということで、今回は「ザ・フレイム 永遠の愛の炎 The Flame」 チープ・トリック Cheap Trick をピックアップ。
「ザ・フレイム：永遠の愛の炎 The Flame 」は、チープ・トリック Cheap Trick が1988年にバンド初の全米No.1を獲得したバラード。アルバム 『永遠の愛の炎 Lap of Luxury』1988年に収録されています。
日本のCMにも使われたりした曲なので聞いたことのある人も多いでしょう。しかし、バンドにとっては前アルバム「The Doctor」（1986年）がチャートで100位にも届かず興行的に失敗したこともあり、このアルバム「Lap Of Laxuary」に復活をかけていたようです。そのためこの曲は外部の作曲家の作品を演奏しているのですが、それが大ヒットにつながって、本人たちは複雑な思いもあったのかもしれませんね。
