前々回の「愛はとまらない Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now」のブログで、作曲家としてのアルバート・ハモンドの作品も取り上げたいと書きました。
そこで今回はぶろっこりも好きな曲、カーペンターズ The Carpenters の「青春の輝き I Need to Be in Love」をピックアップ。
「青春の輝き I Need to Be in Love」は、リチャード・カーペンターとアルバート・ハモンドが作曲、ジョン・ベティス作詞。アルバム『見つめあう恋 A Kind of Hush』1976年 に収録され、カレン・カーペンター自身が一番好きな曲と言っていたそうです。
1976年当時のシングルは「サンディー」をB面として発売され、全米25位、日本のオリコン62位でしたが、1995年にテレビドラマ『未成年』のエンディングに使われると、カーペンターズを知らない若年たちの評判になり、ベスト版『青春の輝き〜ベスト・オブ・カーペンターズ』のCDは350万枚、『未成年』のオープニング「トップ・オブ・ザ・ワールド」とカップリングしたCDシングルも大ヒットしました。もちろん、ぶろっこりも買いました。
