今回は、「ナイト・バーズ Night Birds 」シャカタク Shakatak をピックアップ。
イギリスのジャズ・ファンク・バンド、シャカタクが1982年にリリースした2枚目のアルバム『ナイト・バーズ Night Birds』には彼らのヒット曲が2曲収録されています。「イージアー・セッド・ザン・ダン Easier Said than Done」(1981年12位)と「ナイト・バーズ Night Birds」(1982年9位)です。
『ナイト・バーズ』 は、シャカタクのトレードマークであるファンキーなサウンドが確立したアルバムと言われていますね。「イージアー・セッド・ザン・ダン Easier Said than Done」はB面一曲目、「ナイト・バーズ Night Birds」はA面一曲目に収録。どちらも、シングル・カットされたのが納得の印象的な曲です。当時流行した都会的で洗練されたオシャレな曲。もしかすると、夜のドライブなどでBGMとして流した曲かもしれませんね。

日本では女性コーラスをフィーチャーしたインストが人気でした。人気だったテレビドラマ『男女7人夏物語』『男女7人秋物語』のBGMにも楽曲が使用されて、3年連続（87年から89年）で、日本ゴールドディスク大賞のインストゥルメンタル部門アルバム賞を受賞しています。ぶろっこりも、いろんなところで良く聞きました。ほんと懐かしいです。
