チープ・トリックの Farewell Tour と銘打った Cheap Trick Japan Tour 2025 が 9/29（月）グランキューブ大阪、10/1（水）日本武道館 と迫ってきました。
ということで今回は、チープ・トリック The Cheap Trick の代表曲「甘い罠 I Want You to Want Me」1977 と「今夜は帰さない Clock Strikes Ten」1977 の２曲をピックアップ。
チープ・トリックはロビン・ザンダー、リック・ニールセン、トム・ピーターソン、バン・E・カルロスの4人で結成されたロックバンド。 1977年にアルバム『チープ・トリック』でデビュー。

同年発売の2ndアルバム『蒼ざめたハイウェイ』が日本で話題を呼ぶ。おもに女性ファンによるイケメンのロビンとニックに対する人気がすごかったです。
セカンド・アルバム『蒼ざめたハイウェイ In Color』1977年
1978年4月には日本武道館でコンサートが行われ、その模様がライブ録音されて、バンドにとっても最も成功したアルバム『チープ・トリックat武道館』が日本で発売されます。

「甘い罠 I Want You To Want Me」1977年 は、アルバム『蒼ざめたハイウェイ In Color』からシングル・カットされましたが、アメリカではチャートインできず。
しかし、1979年のシングル「甘い罠 (Live)」は、全米で全米でも7位のヒットを記録。同じ曲なのに、なぜこうも違ったのか。そこには、1978年にライブ・アルバム『チープ・トリックat武道館 Cheap Trick at Budokan』が日本でのみ発売されヒットして、その後「At Budokan」が1979年に全米発売されヒットするというアメリカへの逆輸入とも言うべき現象があったからなんですね。
日本では「今夜は帰さない」、「サレンダー」のヒットに続き、ライブ版のシングル「甘い罠(Live)」はNo.1のヒットに。本国よりも先に火がついたんですね。
かっこいいイントロのギターリフも、 Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’ (cryin)というサビも、世界中で有名になったのです。もちろん ぶろっこりは呪文のように、ディンナイ、ディンナイ、ディンナイ、シーユークライン！（クライン！クライン！クライン！）と歌っていましたけどね。

もう1曲、「今夜は帰さない Clock Strikes Ten」チープ・トリック 1979年
チープ・トリックの「今夜は帰さない Clock Strikes Ten」も、もともと2ndアルバム『蒼ざめたハイウェイ』に収録されていましたがアメリカではヒットせず、1978年のライブ・アルバム『チープ・トリックat武道館』が本国アメリカでも注目されると、シングルも全米でヒットしました。
