サラ・マクラクラン Sarah McLachlan は、カナダのシンガー・ソング・ライター。「エンジェル Angel」は、彼女の代表曲といっていいでしょう。コカインの過剰摂取のためになくなったミュージシャンを歌った曲だとか。名盤と言われ人気の高いアルバム「Surfaceing」1997年に収録されています。

また、この曲は、メグ・ライアンとニコラス・ケイジが主演した映画「シティ・オブ・エンジェル City of Angels」1998年の挿入歌として使われています。この映画は、あのヴィム・ヴェンダース監督『ベルリン・天使の詩』のリメイクで、悲しい結末のファンタジー・ラブ・ストーリーでした。ご覧になられた方もいらっしゃるでしょう。切ないのエンディングでしたね。

エド・シーランの「Ａチーム The A Team 」を思い出させるような歌詞で、クリスマスの歌としては、ちょっと悲しすぎるという気もしますが、サラの歌声はそれさえも清めてくれるほどの神々しさを感じさせてくれると思います。
