Today I’ll talk about Japanese comic book, “The Promised Nederland “.This is one of my favourites.
It’s inspired from the Nobel Prized Literature, Kazuo Ishiguro’s “Never let me go.”
“Never Let me go” is also a story of children who raised in the orphanage（孤児院）.
They were born to give their organs（内臓） to rich people who got ill.
Eventually they give every organ to them and die young.
Likewise “The Promised Neverland “ starts from the orphanage.
Children were raised by a beautiful and gentle Mama.
They were all very happy and have no complaints there.
but Something is different from other orphanages.
They are protected by the wall,
and everyday they have to take difficult exams.
After the exam the kids who got full mark announced.
Always three kids were praised.
Those three are the main characters, Ema, Norman and Ray.
Luckily One day a cute little girl was adapted（養子になる） to a new family.
Children in the orphanage love her a lot.
On the parting day, although they missed her already, but they congregated her for a happy ever after.
The girl always hug her favourite stuffed animal rabbit, which she always bring around.
And she gave her good by with happy smile.
Seeing her off, Ema found the little girl’s favourite bunny doll.
Ema and Norman run after the girl to give it back, and got out of the gate,
which they are prohibited（禁止されている）.
Their horrified（恐ろしい） life started from there.
They found the girl’s corpse on the truck.
The girl was not adopted but killed by the Demons to feed them.
The secret of the orphanage is
they were raised as food for demons.
The three smart kids started planning to escape from this orphanage.
Their long, ruthless（無慈悲な） journey starts.
To fight back against demon.
To find the demon’s secret and how it all started.
This comic sold 25,000,000 copies（2500万部）all over the world.
They made an animation based on this comic.
They have two seasons.
I wish they could make more seasons.
Because it ended abruptly（急に）.
They spoiled the original breathtaking(息を呑むほど素晴らしい） long story.
I wonder why they finished so quickly.
It’s a shame（残念です）.
