先日、マイク・ネスミス Mike Nesmith の訃報がとどきました。2021年12月10日、心不全のため自宅で亡くなられたそうです。最近、モンキーズをビックアップしたばかりなので驚きました。11月にミッキー・ドレンツとロサンゼルス公演を終えたばかりだったとのこと。これで、ミッキーを除くメンバーが鬼籍には入られたことになります。ということで今回は、マイク追悼、モンキーズ The Monkees の「モンキーズのテーマ (Theme From) The Monkees 」をピックアップ。

ＴＶシリーズ「ザ・モンキーズ」に使われたテーマ曲。ファースト・アルバム「恋の終列車 The Monkees」の1曲目に収録されています。番組を見ていた方にはいちばん親しみのある曲でしょう。このテーマが聞こえてくると、テレビの前に正座してました。

こちらの動画は、ＴＶショウの実際のオープニングテーマの部分です。いや懐かしい。80年代にも再放送されてリバイバルしたので、ご覧になった方も多いと思います。season2のヴァージョンです。

Wiki などによると、前年に大ヒットしたデイヴ・クラーク・ファイヴ Dave Clark Five の「 Catch Us If You Can 」にインスパイアされてできた曲とか。イントロや構成、歌詞などを比べてみるとなるほどという感じがします。でも、こちらの方もビートルズのスタイルに似てますよね。

日本でとても人気が高かったので、なんとタイガースやタイマーズもモンキーズのテーマをカヴァーしてます。もしかして、オリジナルを知らないひとがいたかも。

タイマーズのテーマから始まる、タイマーズの演奏。生放送事故って、昔は良かったって言ってる場合じゃないんだよね。こちらは、YouTubeにジャンプしてご覧ください。
