音楽大好きの ぶろっこり が、気ままに気になる気分のミュージックをお送りする @今週の洋楽 。

年末・年始と賛美歌やクラシックとゆかりある曲が続いていますが、今回はとどめと言うような曲、「ジス・ナイト 今宵はフォーエバー This Night ビリー・ジョエル Billy Joel」1983年をピックアップ。

アルバム『イノセント・マン An Innocent Man 』1983年は、ビリー・ジョエル9作目のスタジオ・アルバム。このアルバムは彼自身の音楽のルーツを明らかにしたアルバムと言われています。

そのなかで、彼の敬愛するルートヴィヒ・ヴァン・ベートーヴェンのピアノ・ソナタ第8番「悲愴」の第2楽章を「今宵はフォーエバー This Night 」のコーラス部分に使用しています。ちゃんとアルバムにもWords & Music by : Billy Joel except for the chorus for “This Night” by L.v.Beethoven とクレジットされていますね。

アメリカではシングルのＢ面に使われただけでしたが、イギリスと日本でシングル・カットされてヒットしました。

また、この曲全体のサウンドは、ビリーが少年の頃聴いていたＲ＆Ｂやソウルを歌うドゥー・ワップといったスタイルへのオマージュも見られますね。たとえば、こんな曲。
